In 2022, a coroner determined that Martha would likely have survived had she been transferred to intensive care sooner, emphasizing the critical need for responsive and attentive healthcare systems. The helplines serve as an essential tool for nurses and doctors to voice their concerns without fear of confrontation.
Launched in September 2024, the helplines have been operational in 143 hospital sites across England. Recent figures from NHS England reveal that of the nearly 1,800 calls made by NHS staff, more than 1,000 have played a crucial role in identifying significant deterioration in patients' conditions.
