This rise, recorded over the last two weeks, has left many consumers feeling the pinch at the pump. On May 25 and 26, fresh hikes were announced, reflecting ongoing adjustments in the energy sector. In addition, compressed natural gas (CNG) rates also climbed by Rs 2 per kg on May 27.
Mumbai remains one of the most expensive cities for fuel, with petrol priced at an astonishing Rs 111.21 per litre and diesel at Rs 97.83 per litre. Meanwhile, Chennai has also felt the effects of rising fuel costs, where petrol increased by Rs 0.10 to reach Rs 107.87 per litre, and diesel saw a rise of Rs 0.11 to Rs 99.66 per litre.
Among the metro cities, Hyderabad holds the title for the highest petrol prices, soaring to Rs 115.73 per litre, with diesel not far behind at Rs 103.82. Similarly, the capital of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, reports petrol at Rs 115.49 per litre and diesel crossing the Rs 104 mark.
In Delhi, the pricing sees a mixed trend. In Gurgaon, petrol has dipped slightly by Rs 0.18, settling at Rs 102.59 per litre, while Noida has experienced a sharp increase of Rs 0.26, bringing its price to Rs 102.38 per litre. Diesel prices in Gurgaon fell by Rs 0.17, contrasting with Noida’s rise of Rs 0.29.
As for CNG, prices have shown some stability but remain high in many regions. In Mumbai, CNG is priced at Rs 81 per kg, whereas in Delhi and NCR, it stands at Rs 77.09 per kg. Notably, Hyderabad boasts one of the highest CNG rates in the country at Rs 97 per kg, with prices in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh also exceeding Rs 95.
States like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, and Rajasthan continue to report CNG prices exceeding Rs 90 per kg, cementing the trend of increased fuel costs.
