Discover how Jewar Airport is set to reshape Uttar Pradesh's economy by boosting jobs, GSDP, and logistics capabilities in this transformative initiative.
GlipzoIndia’s aviation sector is currently valued at about Rs 1.6 lakh crore, with six Tier-1 cities dominating 68% of the market share. Notably, while Delhi holds a commanding 20% of this market, Uttar Pradesh’s share lingers at a mere 4%. The introduction of NIA is set to change this dynamic dramatically, with projections estimating air passenger traffic to surpass 3 crore by 2034—more than doubling the current figures for the entire state.
The air cargo sector in India is largely concentrated in six metropolitan hubs: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. With Uttar Pradesh aiming to achieve a $1 trillion economy in the near future, the need for a significant air cargo hub is pressing. NIA will fill this void, starting with an annual cargo capacity of 2.55 lakh MT, which is projected to grow to 15 lakh MT over time. Air cargo hubs are vital economic engines, facilitating over 35% of global trade by value, which equates to approximately $8 trillion annually. They are instrumental in driving GDP growth, creating high-value jobs, and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).
A network of multi-modal facilities will facilitate efficient cargo transfers between these transport routes and the airport, including: - An interchange connecting the Yamuna Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. - A logistics hub linking industrial zones around the Yamuna Expressway with the Eastern DFC. - A 31-km road to streamline connections between the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, DFC, and NIA.
This integrated transport system is expected to enhance logistics efficiency in Uttar Pradesh by reducing costs, shortening transit times, and improving supply chain reliability. Moreover, it supports green logistics through reduced carbon emissions and simplified regulatory compliance.
As the airport gears up for its grand operational phase, all eyes will be on how these developments unfold and their impact on the local economy.
