Drishyam 3's box office success continues, with Mohanlal's film earning Rs 76 crore in just two days. Will it surpass previous records?
GlipzoMohanlal’s latest release, Drishyam 3, has quickly established itself as a significant box office success. On its second day of theatrical release, the film garnered an impressive Rs 11 crore net in India and Rs 20 crore gross overseas, bringing its total earnings to Rs 76.18 crore worldwide. This surge follows a remarkable opening day collection of Rs 45 crore, coinciding with Mohanlal's birthday.
Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that Drishyam 3 recorded 4,886 shows across India, showing an occupancy rate of 44.5%. The film’s strong performance reflects its growing popularity, with many fans eager to see how it will compare to previous installments in the Drishyam series.
As Drishyam 3 continues to gain momentum, it is nearing the mark set by the Hindi version of Drishyam, which amassed Rs 110 crore following its release in 2015. The Hindi sequel, Drishyam 2, outperformed its predecessor, raking in an impressive Rs 342 crore globally. Interestingly, the original Malayalam sequel opted for a direct OTT release during the pandemic, missing out on box office revenues.
Drishyam, the original film starring Mohanlal, might have had a slow start, but it ultimately earned Rs 62 crore during its lifetime, leading to several remakes in languages such as Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, as well as adaptations in Sinhalese and Chinese.
This year marks Mohanlal's second release after his collaboration with Mammootty in Patriot. Despite featuring a star-studded cast that included Nayanthara and Fahadh Faasil, Patriot struggled at the box office, concluding with a total of Rs 79.91 crore, which included Rs 31.59 crore from Indian audiences.
Before Drishyam 3, Mohanlal's last significant hit was Thudarum (2025), which reportedly earned Rs 236 crore worldwide. His subsequent films—Kannappa, Hridayapoorvam, and Vrusshabha—did not leave a lasting impact, with only Hridayapoorvam managing a moderate box office run.
If Drishyam 3 maintains its current trajectory, industry analysts predict that it will easily cross the Rs 100 crore mark by the end of its opening weekend. The film's ensemble cast includes Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Siddique, and Asha Sarath, all contributing to the film's broad appeal.
The success of Drishyam 3 is crucial for both Mohanlal and the Indian film industry, as it demonstrates the enduring popularity of the thriller genre and the franchise itself. As audiences continue to gravitate towards gripping narratives, this film's performance could influence future projects in the industry.
As Drishyam 3 continues to make waves at the box office, it will be interesting to see how it performs against other upcoming releases and whether it can sustain its impressive momentum. Expectations are high not just from fans of the franchise but from the broader film community, eager to see if Mohanlal can replicate or even exceed the success of his previous hits.
