Deepak Mukut plans to release Emraan Hashmi's Gunmaaster G9 on Dussehra, aiming to capture nostalgic audiences while learning from past release challenges.
GlipzoEmraan Hashmi is set to make waves this Dussehra with his latest action-packed movie, Gunmaaster G9, co-starring the talented Genelia Deshmukh and Aparshakti Khurana. This film marks a significant reunion between Hashmi and director Aditya Datt, who last collaborated two decades ago. Producer Deepak Mukut recently shared insights about the anticipated film's release plans in an exclusive interview, unveiling his strategy to capitalize on a favorable release window.
Mukut revealed, “We are aiming for a release during the Dussehra week, specifically on October 16. There are no other major releases in the following three weeks, which gives us a unique advantage.” He acknowledges the crowded cinematic landscape, mentioning that Drishyam 2 is set to debut on October 2, but insists that the genres of the two films will target different audiences. “Gunmaaster G9 is an action masala film, while Drishyam 2 operates within a different narrative space,” he stated.
Mukut understands the importance of connecting with audiences who grew up watching Hashmi in his earlier roles. “The young fans who adored Emraan back in the mid-2000s are now in their 40s or 50s,” he explained. “We are also keen to attract younger viewers. My son, for example, is 20 and enjoys Emraan’s classic tracks.” This strategy highlights Mukut’s awareness of the evolving demographics of moviegoers.
Reflecting on his previous release, Mukut shared lessons learned from The Bhootnii, which suffered due to scheduling conflicts with Raid 2. “PVR Inox, the distributor for Raid 2, overshadowed my film, resulting in fewer screenings. While The Bhootnii earned approximately Rs. 10 crores, I believe it could have performed much better had it secured more showings,” he lamented. This experience emphasizes his careful approach in selecting the release date for Gunmaaster G9.
Currently, the production team is preparing for an exhilarating car chase sequence in Mumbai, followed by filming in Uttarakhand and Delhi in June. Mukut expressed his excitement about the film’s progress, stating, “Genelia Desmukh is outstanding in her role, and I appreciate the dedication she has shown throughout the project.” He also noted that Riteish Deshmukh praised the film, highlighting its strong character development.
In addition to Gunmaaster G9, Mukut is also working on a sequel to the classic film Nayak (2001), starring Anil Kapoor. “It’s still a work in progress, but we will make an announcement together soon,” he said. Furthermore, he revealed that Sanam Teri Kasam 2 is also in the pipeline, with the first film’s unexpected resurgence in popularity being a significant motivator.
The dynamics of Bollywood releases are shifting, and Mukut’s strategy reflects a broader industry trend of carefully timing film debuts to avoid clashes. As the film industry continues to recover from pandemic-related delays, the success of Gunmaaster G9 could set a precedent for future releases, particularly for films targeting nostalgic audiences.
As the release date approaches, all eyes will be on Gunmaaster G9 to see if it can capture the audience's attention and generate buzz in a crowded cinematic landscape. With the film’s distinct action-oriented storyline, nostalgic elements, and a favorable release window, Mukut remains optimistic about its potential success.
Fans of Emraan Hashmi and Bollywood enthusiasts alike should keep an eye out for updates as the film gears up for its awaited debut in October. The outcome of this release will not only impact Mukut's career but might also influence how future films are positioned in the ever-evolving Bollywood market.
