GlipzoIn a recent interview, Chahatt Khanna, the renowned actress, opened up about her complex relationship with religion, her personal journey following her divorce, and how her views are often misinterpreted. Speaking with journalist Subhojit Ghosh, Khanna shed light on her experiences navigating the delicate balance between her faith and public perception.
The conversation delved into the challenges Khanna faced regarding her past conversion to Islam and her reconnection with her roots in Sanatan Dharma. "My words are always misinterpreted. Even now, if I say something, one sentence will be picked and published somewhere in a different context," she stated, expressing frustration over how her statements are sometimes taken out of context.
Khanna described herself as a secular individual who appreciates and celebrates multiple religions. "I celebrate Eid just as much as I celebrate Diwali, whether it was during my marriage or otherwise," she explained, emphasizing that her conversion was a personal choice rather than a coercion. "Yes, I had converted to Islam by my own choice. Many people said that I was forced to convert, but I have never said that."
This blend of beliefs represents her diverse spiritual identity. "Yes, I believe in Islam, I believe in Sanatan Dharma as well. That doesn't mean I don't believe in other religions. I am a very secular person," Khanna reiterated. This multifaceted approach to faith highlights her commitment to inclusivity and respect for all religious practices.
Reflecting on her post-divorce life, Khanna shared that rediscovering her original identity was a gradual and emotional journey. "After my divorce, it took me a lot of time to come back to my originality. It took me 4-5 years to believe in Islam, too, and I still believe in a few of their fundamentals. Bohot acchhe hain," she noted, indicating a sense of gratitude for her spiritual evolution. "But thankfully, when I got back to my roots of the Sanatana Dharma, I realized the greater truth behind a lot of things."
Khanna also acknowledged the influences that shaped her decisions during her conversion. "I don't know what that was but ha keh sakte hai. That's why I say thankfully I'm back home. A lot of people did not want me to convert but I did because I wanted to do nikaah. Not that I was forced to convert but I did," she shared, revealing the complexities surrounding her choices and the pressures she faced.
In her journey toward self-acceptance, Khanna experienced a transformative realization. "I think it was fine; it was not that bad. But then, I am happy, I am in a much happier space, I have more wisdom, I know what I am doing.
