Bhooth Bangla hits Rs 200 crore but struggles against Housefull 5. Discover its box office performance and what’s next for this Akshay Kumar film.
GlipzoIn a remarkable journey at the box office, Bhooth Bangla, the latest film featuring Akshay Kumar, has reached a significant milestone, accumulating approximately Rs 199.38 crore globally as of Day 13. Despite this impressive figure, the film faces a crucial challenge: it is unlikely to surpass the Rs 288.67 crore mark set by its competitor, Housefull 5. This places Bhooth Bangla in an interesting position within the competitive landscape of current Bollywood releases.
The film's performance has already eclipsed several notable titles, including Kesari Chapter 2 at Rs 145.01 crore, Sky Force with Rs 150.01 crore, and Jolly LLB 3, which garnered Rs 171.64 crore. This success could indicate a growing audience interest in horror-comedy genres, especially those headlined by popular actors like Kumar.
On its thirteenth day in theaters, Bhooth Bangla displayed varied occupancy rates across key regions in India. The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded an occupancy rate of 9.3% across 992 shows, while Mumbai fared slightly better with 11.3% occupancy from 677 shows. Other cities reported mixed outcomes: - Ahmedabad: 9.3% - Pune: 9.5% - Surat: 6.0% - Bengaluru: 10.5% - Lucknow: 9.5% - Hyderabad: 7.3% - Jaipur: 13.0% - Chandigarh: 6.3%
Among these, Kolkata emerged as the star performer, achieving an overall occupancy rate of 18.5%, with evening shows reaching as high as 33.0%. Chennai also showed robust performance with a 15.0% occupancy, despite limited screenings, indicating a strong local interest in the film. The trend of higher occupancy during evening and night shows compared to morning slots suggests that audiences are increasingly opting for later screenings.
According to data from trade site Sacnilk, Bhooth Bangla recorded an overall occupancy of 10.27% for its Hindi screenings on Day 13. The breakdown of occupancy throughout the day was as follows: - Morning shows: 5.62% - Afternoon shows: 11.23% - Evening shows: 12.08% - Night shows: 11.00%
The film also continued to attract international audiences, bringing in an additional Rs 0.75 crore from overseas markets, raising its international total to Rs 51.50 crore. This brings the worldwide gross to an impressive Rs 199.38 crore, showcasing the film's appeal beyond Indian shores.
As Bhooth Bangla continues to draw viewers, the film's performance raises questions about its long-term prospects. With a current pace that suggests it may struggle to reach the heights of Housefull 5, industry analysts will closely monitor future box office collections, especially as competition from new releases emerges.
